The 175 dollar guitar


The ES175 was introduced in 1949. The numbers Gibson uses is referred to the price. The ES175 costed 175 dollar, the Super 400, costed 400 dollar at the introduction. The L5 costed........


The first ES175 had one so called P90 dogear pickup. Later they changed to two pickups with pickup selector switch and double volume and tone controls. 


Till about 1956 the P90 single coil pickups were used on the ES175. After 1956 Gibson changed the 
P90's for their new invented dual coil hum reducing pickups known as PAF's.
